Latest Polls Show Ben Is Still Voters’ #1 Choice For Honolulu

Early this morning Civil Beat released a poll of 799 voters which showed Ben Cayetano with a commanding double digit lead of 44% to 23% for Kirk Caldwell and 21% for incumbent Peter Carlisle.  In spite of an army of taxpayer-financed PR consultants for HART, hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interest groups spent on opponent attack ads blasted on TV and radio, Ben Cayetano remains the front runner and the voters’ #1 choice for fiscal sanity in Honolulu.

Ben has not only held his double-digit lead in the polls, he’s unswervingly held the line on his principled positions to protect Honolulu’s taxpayers and restore the city’s woefully neglected infrastructure.

Ben is the choice of the people!

Our campaign has always been about support from ordinary people who work, live and play in Honolulu. In spite of the entrenched special interest candidates, in spite of deceptive push polls to slander the former Governor and detract public attention from the severe shortcomings of the rail project, at 44% Ben is within striking range of the 50% plus one vote needed to win outright in the August 11th Primary Election.

As Star Advertiser columnist Dave Shapiro writes, “Cayetano’s candidacy makes the 2012 election a clear referendum on rail and the future of Oahu development … Current frenzied efforts to tie his hands in advance will likely fail.”

Nothing can stop a grassroots campaign supported by ordinary people with an extraordinary vision for Honolulu’s future. Ben says it best: “My opponents are so desperate, they’ve thrown the kitchen sink against me. If that’s the best they can do, they’re in trouble!”

To date, the Cayetano campaign has not aired one radio ad, print ad and only aired one TV ad featuring former First Lady, Vicky Cayetano. “I told our supporters that because of our limited resources we will hold our fire until we see the whites of their eyes,” Ben says. “That day has come.”

Ben has come out of retirement because the people of Oahu are looking for change that works for them, not for special interests. Ben has never lost an election because he never quit fighting for the people. The record is straight and the polls are clear: Ben is the voters’ choice and the only hope to restore fiscal sanity to City Hall. It’s time to go Downtown.

The Star-Advertiser made it seem that support for Ben has dropped. Again, the complete truth is not being told to the public. This was a poll of “likely Primary voters” – not the same criteria used for the first Civil Beat poll. This is the more crtitical group to track – especially for a mayoral race where the candidate who gets 50% + 1 will wn the race. Bottomline, tho, Ben keeps his lead … and yes, with the help of PEOPLE POWER!

If the poll is accurate, then it is very likely that Ben Cayetano will be elected Mayor on August 11. Look at the numbers, factoring in the undecideds. Split the undecided vote between Ben and the others, Ben is at 50%. Now, the key is to get everyone registered and voting. Remember, the opposition will do everything to stop Ben and run us over with Rail. Every vote really counts.
