Governor Ben’s anti-rail stance draws support across political spectrum

Because of his pledge to halt the financially, culturally and aesthetically disastrous elevated rail project, Governor Cayetano draws strong support from voters across the political spectrum, as Star-Advertiser reporter B.J. Reyes points out in his July 25 article: “Ben Cayetano: Former governor finds many agree with his position on rail.”

Although a “card-carrying Democrat” during his three decades of public service, Governor Ben’s mayoral campaign is backed many Independents and Republicans, Reyes notes. This includes GOP State Senator Sam Slom, who says the former two-term governor is the only mayoral candidate who “understands the full fiscal implications of what’s happening with the city.”

One of his many Democrat backers is State Rep. Gil Keith-Agaran, who predicts Governor Ben’s administrative skills “will translate pretty well to the city government.”

“He’s going to provide leadership,” Agaran said, “and as you can see, he’s never afraid to tell people what he thinks.”
